Our Story
The podcast we wanted to hear didn’t exist, so we made it. All the pop culture podcasts had too much yapping and not enough depth, and all the self-improvement podcasts were so long and heavy - we wanted a goldilocks podcast. Not too light, not too heavy…just right.
A little bit of pop culture sugar to help that self improvement medicine go down. And we wanted to make it quick. And relevant. And fun.
But why the name? You’re a smart person so you probably caught on that Pop and Circumstance is a play on Pomp and Circumstance - a phrase coined by Shakespeare that has come to be associated with rituals and ceremony. If you feel perpetually out of the loop be your Monday/Thursday thing - your twice weekly ritual to get looped in with pop culture, and on the lift with some personal growth.
Our Hosts
Elizabeth Martin
Elizabeth is the founder of Southern Supply, a start up accessories and customization business that is leveling up the dull and drab experience of buying customized accessories with better buying experiences. Read: marketplace buying blows and the technology for good customization doesn’t yet exist so she’s building it.
Elizabeth has lived many lives (legit, she is convinced she was once an 18th century French aristocrat) but on this timeline she’s been in the Peace Corps, had a career as an HR lady, and is now in her mid-life transition shedding those darn societal expectations and doing whatever the heck she wants to do.
And what she wants to do is share her deep well of random and esoteric knowledge mixed with the absolute joy she gets from staying on top of the culture. Like, all of it.
Knowledge is power and culture is connection and Elizabeth is alllll about power to the people through connection so Pop and Circumstance ties this up in a beautiful, juxtaposed bow.
